When creating a transaction and going to select an account from the drop down list, one often finds that there is no suitable account. The drop down list should contain an item "Create New" allowing the user to create a new account without need to abandon the transaction that has been started.

Re: Creating accounts on the fly

This is something that we have given quite a  bit of thought to, and it fits somewhere in that grey area of improved flexibility vs complexity - i.e. at what point is the cross over between making things 'easier' versus adding too many options and making a page view over-complicated.

We have taken the stance that adding an account would typically be a very rare occurance - maybe a few at the start of using the application and then only once every few weeks or months. This being the case, it makes more sense to keep it seperate for now.

We will keep an eye on this one though, and if it becomes necessary, we can add it in.

My suggestion would make things easier and less complicated for the user. I can't see how it could possibly complicate life for the user. It could complicate life for your programmers of course.

I don't know why you think adding an account would be a very rare occurrence. Perhaps we are using account in a different sense? I'm not a professional bookkeeper or accountant, so I often don't understand concepts very well, so forgive me if I am talking nonsense. But it seems to me that the software should maintain registers of customers and vendors. For example, when I write a cheque to a new payee, say "Man with a Van", the new payee should be added to the Vendor Register. Then I should be able to generate a report listing all transactions with "Man with a Van". Adding an account in this sense would be a daily occurrence for most businesses. I would like to be able to create the "Man with a Van" account in the midst of creating the cheque payment to "Man with a Van".

You can already add Customers/Suppliers on the fly by using the '+' sign next to the drop down. We intially interpreted your request as an attempt to create new ledger accounts (as found in the Chart of Accounts under the Settings).

Hope this clarifies the functionality better.

Apologies for the confusion,
